Hyderabad, Aug. 8: There
is no law which allows authorities to claim damages when public
property is destroyed in road accidents. Currently, only those who
damage the public property with criminal intentions can be prosecuted.
Experts of urban governance and officials of civic bodies feel that
stringent rules should be framed to book cases against those who damage
property through rash driving. "Creation of public awareness is
necessary to protect public property and a separate law is needed to
book cases against motorists," said Mr Mr K.Sudarshan Reddy, executive
engineer of roads and buildings department. He said truck drivers cause
much damage to the roads but get away because of the legal loopholes. |
