The state government on Thursday sanctioned Rs
1 crore each to the newly-formed Nayee Brahmin, Vadderra and
washermen’s federations. The Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy,
also sanctioned Rs 50 lakh each for the Dudekula, Vishwabrahmin,
Shalivahana (kummari), Meru (tailors), Uppara (sagara) and Valmiki
federations. He also promised support to the existing societies by
helping them in skills upgradation and marketing.
Dr Reddy discussed the problems faced by the BCs with officials at
the secretariat. He asked the BC welfare department to come up with new
schemes to help the BC occupational groups modernise their profession
traits. He also urged the department to help the existing societies to
upgrade their marketing skills. The government had established
federations for occupational groups like Nayee Brahmins, Rajakas and
other communities recently for their overall development by extending
financial assistance through economic support schemes. Three
federations are already working under the administrative control of the
BC welfare department. The AP washermen federation was formed in 1982,
the AP Nayee Brahmin Federation in 1989 and the AP Vaddera Federation
in 2006. |
